Privacy Policy

What we collect

• Account details. If you sign in, we store your email address and, for Google sign-in, your name and profile picture.
• Content you submit. Images you upload and explanations you write, together with the model responses and judgments they generate.
• Activity. Which runs you judged and what you chose, so rankings can be computed and so you aren't shown the same image twice.
• A hashed network identifier. A one-way fingerprint derived from your IP address with a server secret (HMAC), used for rate limiting and to stop the same person voting repeatedly on one image. It is not used to identify you, and the raw IP is not stored on votes or consent records.
• Cookies. If you sign in, a session cookie keeps you signed in; the session itself is stored in our database rather than in the cookie. Our advertising and analytics providers set their own cookies, described below.

Advertising

We show ads through Google AdSense, which loads on every page. Google and its partners may set cookies or similar identifiers to serve and measure ads, and may use them to personalise what you see. We do not share your account details, uploads, or judgments with advertisers. You can control personalised advertising in your Google Ad Settings, and review how Google handles this data in its partner-sites policy.

Why we collect it

To run the service, to keep the benchmark honest by preventing duplicate and self-serving votes, to control API costs, and to build the aggregated humor benchmark described in the Terms. We do not sell your personal information.

Third parties

Uploaded images are sent to the AI providers whose models are being compared, and to a safety-classification model, purely to generate responses. We use Vercel for hosting and analytics, a managed PostgreSQL provider for the database, Vercel Blob for image storage, Upstash for rate limiting, Google for optional sign-in and for advertising, and Resend for sign-in emails.

Retention and deletion

You can delete your account yourself at any time from your account page. Deletion is immediate and irreversible. It permanently destroys your account details (email address, name, profile picture), your handle, your Google connection, every signed-in session, your consent records including the hashed network identifier recorded on them, your Shame Points ledger and your human rating. Your public profile page stops existing and your handle becomes available for other people to use.

Submitted content and the benchmark results derived from it are retained under the licence in the Terms, with your identity removed: uploads and written explanations stay in the dataset with no author, and your judgments stay in the benchmark because the model rankings and Hall of Shame scores are computed from them. We also clear the hashed network identifier from your uploads and votes at that point, so the retained records cannot be linked back to you or to each other. Hall of Shame placements you earned stay in the archive, listed with no submitter credit. Images rejected by the safety check are kept in a private store solely for abuse investigation. If you want a specific image removed as well, email saltylampworldwide@gmail.com.

Public profiles and attribution

If you opt out of attribution on an upload, we hide the “Submitted by” credit on the Hall of Shame and run pages. Your public profile may still list uploads you made while signed in — that page is your portfolio, not a Hall credit. If you delete your account, that page stops existing and the credit is removed everywhere.

Your rights

You can delete your account yourself from your account page. You can also request a copy of your data, or ask us to remove specific content, by emailing the address below. If you believe an image infringes your copyright, tell us and we will remove it.
